A delightful, make-ahead breakfast casserole made with layers of French bread soaked in a cinnamon-spiced custard, topped with a crunchy cinnamon-sugar topping. Perfect for lazy mornings!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 sticks butter softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup optional
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Grease a 9×13” baking dish.
  • Slice bread into 1-inch thick pieces. Layer them in the dish, overlapping slightly.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Pour the mixture over the bread, coating all slices.
  • Spoon between slices. Cover and chill overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Flip bread slices for even soaking.
  • Mix topping ingredients in a bowl.

Notes

  • You can prepare the topping the night before to save time in the morning.
  • For a richer flavor, use brioche or challah bread instead of regular French bread.
  • If you prefer a lighter version, you can use whole milk instead of half-and-half.
